Deciding research priorities
Panels of independent experts decide which of the many suggestions received by the HTA programme should be commissioned as research.
This decision-making process involves clarifying research questions that are most likely to fill the main gaps in knowledge for the NHS. Six HTA advisory panels are responsible for this work. Panel members have a wide range of backgrounds, bringing considerable experience. Members of the public are invited to sit on the panels, as well as commenting on the briefing papers (vignettes) which provide the panels with more information about the different research areas. In particular Members of the public are asked to highlight issues that are important to patients. Find out more about commenting on vignettes.
