European Network for Health Technology Assessment (EUnetHTA)
EUnetHTA aims to develop an organisational framework for a sustainable European Network for HTA. It also aims to devise practical tools to fit into this framework to ensure timely and effective production, dissemination and transfer of HTA results into useful policy advice to the member states and EU.
HTA agencies, research institutions, and health ministries from 24 European countries have joined forces on the project. Work to develop practical tools has been divided into eight separately managed work packages. This project began in January 2006 and ended in December 2008. EUnetHTA Joint Action project
This work is continuing with the EUnetHTA Joint Action project on Health Technology Assessment which draws together 33 HTA agencies and institutions in 23 EU and one EEA/EFTA countries. It aims to achieve an effective and sustainable European HTA collaboration that brings added value at the European, national and regional level. This three year project will span 2010 to 2012 and will build upon the methods and tools of the previous EUnetHTA 2006-2008 project.
The 3 objectives are;
• To develop a general strategy and business model for sustainable European collaboration on HTA
• To develop methodological tools to improve the efficiency and transparency of European HTA collaboration
• To apply these tools in European collaboration & at national/regional/local levels
NETSCC involvement
• NETSCC is the only member of the Evaluation Workpackage (WP3). The main purpose of this WP is to identify to what extent the other seven individual work packages are enabling the JA to meet its objectives. This will include evaluation activities such as questionnaires and interviews.
• We will be closely involved in the workstream about ‘Information Management System’ (WP6). This will involve our specialist expertise in advising about a survey on the use of information management tools.
• We will also be closely involved in the workstream about ‘New Technologies’ (WP7). This will specifically involve activities to define an agreed dataset to facilitate exchange of information on planned pragmatic trials.
