Commissioned calls for proposals

The NIHR HTA programme is funded by the NIHR, with contributions from the CSO in Scotland and NISCHR in Wales.
Agreed topics for research are advertised regularly in calls for research proposals. Commissioning briefs for each topic are drawn up to support the advert. Research proposals submitted in response to calls are considered by the HTA Commissioning Board which assesses the scientific merit, feasibility and value for money of the proposals.
Primary research submissions are first made in outline, with shortlisted research teams invited to submit full proposals for consideration by the Board. For evidence synthesis, full proposals are usually invited from the start.
