  • The HTA programme is funded by the NIHR, with contributions from the CSO in Scotland and NISCHR in Wales.

The HTA Clinical Evaluation and Trials funding stream funds grants for evaluation studies and clincial trials supporting research that is immediately useful to clinical practice and decision makers in the NHS. View the HTA programme remit for more details.

Proposals can be submitted on an ongoing basis. There are four cut-off deadlines a year and proposals received by the stated deadline will be considered in the next available assessment cycle:

The HTA programme is particularly interested in receiving proposals concerning people (adults and children) with learning disability, taking into account their physical, mental and other health needs. We are also interested in receiving proposals addressing any health problem in areas not otherwise well covered in our portfolio.

*Please note those wishing to submit an application to be considered as part of a topic focus need to ensure it is submitted during the relevant funding round (i.e. before the cut-off date for the topic focus).

**The HTA programme funds research into interventions for those who plan, provide or receive care in the NHS. Researchers proposing research relating to interventions not based in the NHS e.g. in schools or local authority run institutions, may wish to consider applying to the Public Health Research programme http://www.phr.nihr.ac.uk/fundingopportunities/.

Assessment dates

Proposals received by 1pm on the Thursday 7 October 2010 and deemed within remit will be assessed for their importance to the NHS in January and March 2011. Applicants will be advised of the status of their applications by the end of March 2011.

Shortlisted proposals from this round will be considered by the CET Funding Board on 3rd/4th May 2011 who will assess for scientific quality, feasibility and value for money. Decisions from the CET Funding Board will be communicated to applicants by end of May 2011. Following this meeting successful outline proposal applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. Applicants have eight weeks to complete a full application form for it to be considered at the next CET Funding Board.
